Going Green with EPD
Whether you’re a novice who would like to explore environmentally responsible solutions for your project, or you’re Leader in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) savvy, European Paving Designs is committed to supporting any endeavor that can contribute to this important global cause.
There are three significant areas where EPD adds value for green (new construction) or regreen (renovation) projects:
- Material selection: In working closely with our clients and our vast supplier base, EPD identifies best-in-class green materials for our clients’ projects without sacrificing quality, design, or ADA requirements. Considerations include the use of reclaimed and recycled materials, vendor commitment to green manufacturing, permeable product options, and logistics management for efficient transportation from supplier to job.
- Storm water runoff considerations: Increased urbanization generates excess storm water runoff from impervious surfaces such as asphalt and concrete. Heavy metals, hydrocarbons, oil, and sediment collect on pavement and are washed into our streams, lakes, bays, and ground water. EPD is well versed and certified in installations of permeable unit paving systems that reduce and filter excess storm water runoff while increasing useable and valuable space.
- Water reclamation and reuse: In conjunction with certain permeable unit paving systems, EPD can assist with water reclamation for onsite use, recharging ground water storage and reducing downstream erosion and flooding. For any project applying for Platinum LEED certification, water reclamation and reuse is a significant element in obtaining those valuable LEED credits.
